Breastfeeding can be difficult and tiresome. However, taking vitamins during your breastfeeding can help alleviate some of your tiredness and help your child with some of the nutrients they will need to stay healthy and strong.
Vegetarian vitamins can be hard to come by, as many vitamin brands do not cater to individuals with plant-based diets. Nevertheless, we have some great vegetarian recommendations that Canvita offers that we believe will help you when breastfeeding.
Here are some vitamins to check out:
1. Prenatal And Postpartum vitamins
Our prenatal and postpartum halal and vegan/vegetarian vitamins are great for breastfeeding mothers! These vitamins contain folic acid and help with pregnancy-related complications. It is also essential in helping healthy cell formation. In all, take your folic acid!
2. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is great for healing wounds, treating fatigue, and helps build a strong immune system. However, for breastfeeding women especially, it can increase milk supply! It can also help ease the steadiness of your milk flow.
The recommended dose for breastfeeding women under the age of 18 is 115mg of Vitamin C per day, and those who are 19 years and older should take 120mg of the vitamin. It is also recommended that breastfeeding women younger than 18 should not take a maximum amount of 1800mg of vitamin C, and for women over the age of 18, 2000mg. If you go over this amount, you may experience unpleasant side effects (i.e. nausea, vomiting, heartburn, etc)
3. Multivitamin + Iron
Multivitamins with iron are great, as your need for iron is considered crucial during the first 6 months of a child’s life. Canvita’s Kids Multivitamins + Iron gummies are a great vegan/vegetarian option for the breastfeeding mom. Although it may say it is for kids, moms are still able to take this vitamin.
